Welcome Edward Oetting, Subject Librarian from ASU

In order to improve the international cooperation and exchanges by establishing close cooperative relations with renowned international universities and research institutions, we are very honored to invite Mr. Edward Oetting, a subject librarian, from Hayden Library, Arizona State University, to work at SCU libraries on April 15 through May 15, 2011. He is scheduled to visit SCU libraries, archives and other cultural organizations in Chengdu. Mr. Oetting is to work with the SCU Librarians and communicate with the faculty and graduate students of School of Publice Administration, School of History & Culture, and give lectures on information reference, library instruction, history of ASU and Arizona.

With extensive education background and working experience in history and archives, Mr. Oetting’s visit is helpful to better the mutual understanding, and expand the in-depth and multi-field collaborative opportunities of both institutes.

Edward Oetting is the Subject Librarian for the following disciplines: History, Political Science, Global Studies, Military Science,   African & African-American Studies, and Ethnic-American Studies. His academic training is in history with a BA and MA and in library science possessing a  MLS  with a specialization in archival administration. In addition to his current position with the ASU Libraries, he has worked previously in the field of archives and manuscripts at the University of North Dakota and State University of New York at Albany as well as serving as Executive Director of The Manuscript Society from 2001 - 2010.
Oetting has been at Arizona State University since 1983, first as Head of Archives and Manuscripts, and since 1996 as a Reference and Subject Librarian.  His main academic interests are in the use of primary source material and library instruction, particularly in an online environment.
