Circulation Policies

    Active Faculty, Staff and Students of Sichuan University with a VALID Library Card may borrow books.

    Library Cards and responsibility are not transferable, do not loan Library Cards or borrowed items to others.

    The responsibility of returning books on time lies with the borrower. All categories of borrowers who keep books/items beyond the loan period are subject to a fine of CNY0.10 Yuan per item per day.

    Journals, reference materials, and books for samples are not provided for circulation.

Applying for the Library Card

    Staff and faculty may apply for their Library Cards with their working IDs.

    Staff and faculty may apply for their Library Cards with their working IDs. Students of the University may apply for their Library Cards with their student IDs.

    Staff and faculty may apply for their Library Cards with their working IDs. Other users may apply for their Library Cards with their valid IDs (such as citizen IDs etc.).

    Staff and faculty may apply for their Library Cards with their working IDs. One 1-inch photo for credentials should be prepared.

    Staff and faculty may apply for their Library Cards with their working IDs. Users should inform the librarian in time if their cards are lost and the users should be responsible for the books borrowed prior to the report. The users will not be allowed to apply for new cards until all the books borrowed with their original library cards are returned.

Borrowing and Returning

Free Borrow and Return Services are available at SCU Libraries. Valid SCU Library Card holders on Jiang’an Campus can check out and return the items provided for circulation by the Liberal Arts and Sciences Library, the Engineering Library and the Medical Library. Likewise the card holders at the Liberal Arts and Sciences Library, the Engineering Library and the Medical Library can borrow and return the items provided for circulation by the Jiang’an Library.

Renewing Books

Borrowers may renew loans for two additional periods. Renewals must be made no later than the last date of the initial loan period. Otherwise, overdue fines will be charged.

Library materials can be renewed by several methods:

    Online: Library materials can be renewed in the online catalog if the borrower's account is in good standing.

      Log onto OPAC

      Click " My Library Card "

      Click the underlined number after "Loans". On the page of Items on Loan select the book to be renewed and then click the "Renew Selected" button or "Renew all" button.

    In person: At any circulation desk.

Please note that renewing is not allowed in any of the situations listed below:

    1 or more overdue items;

    Reach the renewal limit;

    Excess fines and other library charges;

    The Library Card is claimed to be lost;

    The book to be renewed is requested by other users;

Requesting Books

When a book is checked out, users can place a hold (request) on it. Once the item is available, users will be notified to pick it up within 7 working days; otherwise the request would be cancelled automatically.

To place a hold in the Library Catalog:

    Search the book record by title, author, call number, subject, etc.

    At the holdings page, click "Request".

    Enter the ID No. printed on the Library Card and the Library Password as requested.

    Click "Go".

    Select the pick up location.

    Click "Go".

    The message that tells whether the request is successful will be shown.

Hold cannot be placed if:

    The item is NOT checked out.

    The item has already been checked out by the requester.

    The item is a non-circulating item such as a reference book.

    The hold quota has already been used up.

    The loan privilege has been suspended.

Losses and Damage

Damage to library materials includes, but is not limited to: spillage from food and drink; writing in the margins; and underlining in pencil, pen, or other markers.

Damaged books and marked pages should be reported at the Circulation Desk as soon as noticed.

For lost or damaged items, the user will be charged the cost of replacement plus processing fee.

Circulation Reminders

All library circulation reminders, such as due date, pick-up information, and overdue, will be email to users.

Users may register their e-mail information:

    Log onto OPAC

    Click "My Library Card"

    Click "Update address", enter their email addresses and phone numbers, and then click "update".

Services to Non-members of Sichuan University

Users except of students, staff and faculty of the University can obtain services and facilities of the Libraries. They can apply for their Library Cards with their valid IDs, and they can also access the Library's collections with their valid IDs.
